In this afternoon’s community circle, the school watched a performance of an original play, The Greedy Cow.
We have launched a newsletter, the Polaris Inquirer, to keep you all better informed about what students are doing.
Today, our Kindergartener crews hosted parents and other guests on a tour of the school, and also read aloud their crews’ storybooks about the five senses.
Each year, Polaris holds Character Day. It is a chance for students and staff to dress up as their favorite literary characters.
Becky Sherrod knows a thing or two about drawing. As an active artist and a retired art teacher, she has spent her fair share of time with a pencil in her hand.
Last night, Polaris held Math Night. Dozens of family members turned out to learn more about how Polaris students are learning math.
Today, our 50 kindergartners continued their Learning Expedition on the Five Senses at Navy Pier’s Children’s Museum.
This afternoon, Crew 209 took their bread-making activities to a whole new level.
This morning, members (and some friends) of Women in Planning in Development (WP+D) turned out in the rain to get our front garden ready for the winter.
Students have been working on drafting and redrafting their studies of different birds found in Jackson Park.
Students have been doing lots of fieldwork this trimester for their Let’s Wing It expedition.
Students each took a job in their first breadmaking.
On May 9th, 2009, twenty seven Polaris students turned out for Climate Cycle’s “The Ride”. Raising over $600, the students’ fund-raising efforts contributed to a grand total of $70,000 raised at the event. The funds will be used to support Climate Cycle’s Solar School Program which installs solar panels systems in local schools.
As a result of a grant from Climate Cycle, Polaris Charter Academy will soon be the recipient of a 1kW solar panel installation.
What is the sun? How strong is it? How does the sun impact our human life and the earth? These questions and more prompted a year-long expedition studying the solar system, experimenting with light and heat, and learning about the impact that humans, and nature, have on the environment we live in. Where does trash come from and where does it go? What makes trash, trash? These burning questions guided our second and third grade students to seek answers by analyzing the life cycle of trash…
On August 17th, Polaris Charter Academy opened its doors for its 3rd academic year. Our student population has grown to 250 students, encompassing Kindergarten through 4th grade.
